HydroOne™ combines whole-home filtration and ion-exchange softening in one treatment vessel, paired with a brine tank and a demand-metered control.

HydroOne brings those materials together in a compact system. Catalytic carbon treats disinfectants, KDF supports the filtration bed, and durable resin removes hardness. The digital controller measures water use and runs regeneration when the softener needs it.

Component documentation: Centaur catalytic carbon is manufactured for potable-water chloramine and hydrogen-sulfide applications and complies with ANSI/AWWA B604. Aldex C-800x10 is a 10% cross-linked strong-acid cation resin. Actual media life depends on water quality, household use, flow, and maintenance. Component documentation does not certify the complete assembled system.

HydroDuo™ gives the catalytic carbon its own vessel for contact with the water. The separate resin vessel removes hardness. The separate vessels let us size each media bed for its job and service filtration and softening independently.

The exact media quantity, tank sizing, flow rate, and programming are selected around the property. Actual media life depends on water quality, household use, flow, and maintenance. Published media certifications apply to the listed component, not automatically to the complete installed system.

Why the inside matters

What we put inside your system.

We specify the media by name because its performance matters. Here is what Centaur catalytic carbon, KDF, and Aldex resin bring to your system, with the technical details behind our choices.

Filtration

Centaur catalytic carbon

Chlorine taste and odor are familiar reasons to filter water. Chloramines take more work. Centaur’s catalytic surface speeds their breakdown compared with conventional activated carbon. It also treats hydrogen sulfide, a source of rotten-egg odor. We size the carbon bed for the contact time your water needs.

Premium KDF process media

KDF adds copper-zinc redox treatment to the carbon bed. Depending on the grade and water conditions, it reduces dissolved metals such as lead and mercury. It also inhibits bacterial and algal growth within the media bed, helping protect the carbon from biological fouling.

Aldex 10% cross-linked resin

The resin exchanges calcium and magnesium for sodium to remove hardness. We choose 10% cross-linked Aldex C-800x10: higher cross-linking improves resistance to oxidative breakdown compared with conventional 8% resin. Reducing chlorine ahead of the resin helps preserve that working life.

The digital controller meters your household’s water use. It tracks actual water use, maintains reserve capacity, and automatically runs the programmed regeneration and cleaning cycles.

Media specifications, performance details, and sources

Catalytic carbon’s advantage is faster chloramine decomposition. Standard activated carbon also removes free chlorine and can reduce chloramines with sufficient contact time.

KDF’s bacterial-growth control applies within the media bed; it is not a whole-home disinfection claim. The KDF grade and water chemistry determine which dissolved metals it targets. KDF 55 is used for chlorine and soluble metals; KDF 85 is used for iron and hydrogen sulfide.

Higher cross-linking improves resin’s resistance to oxidation, but resin is not immune to chlorine damage. Aldex recommends keeping chlorine below 1 ppm for C-800x10. Media life also depends on temperature, water use, bed sizing, and maintenance. The Aldex listings here concern materials safety, not a certified contaminant-reduction claim for an assembled Sunstorm system.

Performance and service life depend on measured water conditions, system sizing, flow, household use, and maintenance. Component certifications and specifications apply to the listed media or component, not automatically to the complete assembled system.
