Better Water for Your Small Business: Where to Start

Better-tasting drinking water, less scale and fewer bottled-water deliveries can make daily operations easier. Match the equipment to the work your business does.

Start with the daily frustration

Is the break-room water unpleasant? Are you carrying cases into the office? Does scale build up around fixtures or equipment? Write down the problem before comparing systems.

A drinking-water faucet can replace routine bottle runs. Softening addresses hardness where it affects fixtures and cleaning. The useful choice depends on where water is used and what you want to improve.

Map where water is needed

List the drinking stations, sinks and water-using equipment. Include the number of people on site and the busiest period of the day.

A small office and a café have different demands. For food-service or specialty equipment, bring the manufacturer’s water requirements. Flow, storage and drain access affect what can be installed.

Choose each treatment for its job

Softening removes calcium and magnesium that cause hardness. Carbon reduces chlorine taste and smell. RO reduces dissolved solids and adds a membrane stage for drinking water.

You can treat one drinking station or plan a larger installation. EPA’s treatment-selection guide recommends considering both the amount of water and where treated water is needed at home or in a business.

Plan for care after installation

Assign someone to track replacement dates and check for leaks. Keep filters accessible so maintenance does not become a project each time.

For a building left unused for a long period, follow building-water guidance before reopening. Stagnant plumbing is a separate issue from choosing a taste filter.

Bring a useful project brief

  • Your address and water provider or well results.
  • The problem you want to solve.
  • Staff, customer and peak-use estimates.
  • The equipment that uses water and its requirements.
  • Photos of the installation space and nearby plumbing.

You do not need to know the model first. Send us your business water project and we’ll discuss the needs and next steps.
